We will be honoring our American military heroes with a patriotic big band salute. A portion of the proceeds will go to benefit the next phase of Savannah WWII "A World Apart"" monument on River Street.

The full 20-piece orchestra will feature four amazing jazz singers (Clay Johnson and Huxsie Scott from Savannah, Adam Jones from Nashville and John Brackett from Hilton Head), plus the most amazing jazz musicians the region has to offer. The show includes original musical arrangements of classics that range in style from Sinatra to Louis Prima and Ray Charles to James Taylor...all in that classic big band style but with a fresh, hip musical perspective. PLUS...it's Elvis Birthday. We'll be paying tribute to the KING. The show has been described as a cross between Prairie Home Companion and the Dean Martin Variety Show with the hauntingly beautiful Savannah as a central character. Jeremy and his crew are originally from Louisiana and relocated to Savannah in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. They bring a piece of that New Orleans style to the stage and usually end shows with a grand New Orleans style street parade off the stage and out into Chippewa Square. Any time you have a packed theater and an overwhelming giving and enthusiastic audience it is a wonderful thing. We’ve been blessed to have more and more of these situations lately. HOWEVER, when it’s at “home”…you just can’t beat it. Having family and friends in the audience is always exciting. THANK YOU to our friends and supporters in Monroe, LA. You turned out in a huge way to support me and the band. What a show! I’ll try to post some audio from the night soon. On Sunday, July 4th, 2010, in the historic SAVANNAH THEATRE, Jeremy Davis and the Fabulous Equinox Jazz Orchestra will present the 5th annual Savannah Swings Benefit Concert; all net proceeds will go to support the United Service Organizations (USO). The show will feature four amazing singers backed by the impressive 20-piece orchestra performing a mix of patriotic music and Rat-Pack-style All-American swingin' standards. For the last few years, Savannah tourists and residents alike have been thrilled and amazed by the voices of Clay Johnson, Trae Gurley and Adam Jones. The legendary Huxie Scott, who always brings down the house with her soulful singing, will join the cause again this year. One of the standard show-stoppers is the "Armed Forces Salute" which highlights all the military anthems and pays special tribute to all of the veterans and active military in attendance. The show ends with a grand New Orleans street parade out the front door. Your ticket to the show this year includes an addition VIP "front-row" seat on River Street for the City of Savannah Fireworks Show -- two shows for the price of one!

Savannah Swings!

This annual tradition combines patriotic, swingin' music, a New Orleans-style procession and reserved seats on River Street.

First, enjoy a big-bang concert in the air-conditioned Lucas Theatre with "Jeremy Davis and the Fabulous Equinox Jazz Orchestra" with singers Clay Johnson, Adam Jones, Trae Gurley and Huxsie Scott and Kim Polote.

Then, follow the band, New Orleans-procession style from the front of the Lucas down the Abercorn ramp down to River Street. There, you will find reserved seats for fireworks viewing right on the river.

Tickets for the concert, parade and seats are $25 for adults, and $10 children 12 and under. There is a $5 discount for military, fire & police.

Prior to the concert, the First City Club is catering a picnic in Reynolds Square from 3:30 p.m. - 5 p.m. Tickets for this picnic are available for an additional $20 for adults, $15 for children 12 and under.

What a last few days! Thanks to all of you who came out to the show at the Jazz Corner on Friday. That venue really is one of the best. If you haven't been for dinner and a show, do yourself a favor and go...even if we're not there, but preferably if we are there:)

Miami was over the top too! We stayed at the Fountain Blu and performed at the Versace Mansion with Nadia Turner. Great show right there on Oceans Blvd, South Beach.

On this show you can expect to see some old favorites and some new blood. Lawrence Gibbs from the Lawrence Gibbs Orchestra and Louisiana Tech University will be joining us as well as the one and only Maurice Johnson! The amazing Clay Johnson (no relation) will be the featured vocalist with Equinox as always. We’ll premier several new arrangements by Dr. Hoppy Hallman of old familiar favorites with a fresh twist. The 20 piece band will be filled out with 6 young lions from the University of North Texas one o’clock lab band. The legendary Stan Kenton had a relationship with that amazing band from the very start of his career. Some of the best jazz musicians working in America today got their start there. May 22^nd, 2009 at the Strauss Theatre in Monroe, LA is stacking up to be one great show that you will not want to miss.
